Creating Renditions

You can create a new rendition (PDF, JPEG, TIFF, or CALS) from any DGN, DWG, Word, Excel, PDF, raster image, or InterPlot Plot Set (IPS) file in the datasource.

Note: Creating renditions assumes that your administrator has already done the required configuration, which includes setting up a special rendition server (Bentley i-model Composition Server for PDF) and configuring various rendition settings in ProjectWise Administrator. These topics are detailed in the ProjectWise Implementation Guide and the ProjectWise Administrator help.
Tip: The Create Renditions option below will be hidden if there are no rendition profiles configured in ProjectWise Administrator.
  1. In the document list, select any combination of documents, document sets, folders, and work areas, or any items in the results of a saved search, then select Document > Create Renditions.

    or

In the datasource list, select a folder or work area, then select Folder > Create Renditions.

When a document set, folder, or work area is selected, all documents contained in those items will be processed.

Note: Selecting a folder in the document list and selecting Folder > Create Renditions will create renditions from the folder that is open in the datasource list. To create renditions from a folder selected in the document list, you must select Document > Create Renditions instead.
  2. In the Create rendition dialog, select a rendition profile from the Profile list, change any other settings as needed, and click Submit.

Rendition profiles contain all of the necessary processing instructions for creating renditions, including where the new renditions will be stored and whether source documents will also be distributed when the renditions are created.. When you select a profile, default settings (profile components) are applied. Click More if you want to see all of the settings.

If a particular setting has multiple options, or if a setting does not have a default, you can change the default setting as needed. You can also turn on Send e-mail notification on completion if you want an email to be sent to you when the renditions have been created.

When you click Submit, all of the selected documents, along with the processing instructions (the selected rendition settings) will be sent to the server for processing.

Note: When selecting documents, you cannot select an InterPlot Plot Set (IPS) file in conjunction with other documents. Each IPS file must be submitted by itself in a separate job.
Note: If the documents in your selection set span work areas and/or folders that use different profiles, you will be required to select a single profile that will be used for all files.

Click the View Active Jobs button on the Create Renditions dialog to open the Active Jobs window, which shows all jobs that are currently running on the server, regardless of which user created them, or which interface they were created from. If needed you can right-click and pause it or stop it. (Ability for a user to pause or stop jobs is set by the administrator in Orchestration Framework Administrator.)

Active jobs are sorted first by type (ProjectWise Explorer-submitted jobs are listed above jobs created in Orchestration Framework Administrator), then by start time.

Once a job is finished it is automatically removed from the window the next time the window refreshes (the window automatically refreshes every 5 seconds).

While all jobs in the list are active jobs, the Status column is used to differentiate levels of activity:

  • Active - the job is actively running.
  • Queued - the job has been started, but no MSMQ messages for the job are currently being processed.
  • Pausing - the job is in the process of being paused.
  • Paused - the job is paused.
